Success Stories
OTP Group runs twelve banks across eleven countries in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Most of that estate arrived by acquisition – twenty-five banks in two decades, each with its own systems, culture and priorities. In 2024 the Board settled it by decision: BIAN became the reference architecture for the whole Group.
This case study describes how OTP used BIAN to make twelve banks comparable with each other, and what proved harder than expected along the way.
Three figures stand out. Twelve banks in eleven countries now work on one blueprint. More than 180 service domains have been identified across six subsidiaries. And in Serbia, mapping four modules of a twenty-five-year-old core produced 77 service domains – 23 of them built more than once.
“We see BIAN not just as a reference model but as a strategic enabler for harmonising architecture across our diverse network. By embedding capability-based design, we simplify complexity, foster collaboration, and unlock real business value.” – OTP Group, from its submission to the BIAN Transformation Awards 2025
